LT Headers & no cat question?
I have a 98 SS camaro & I was planning on installing a set of hooker LT headers & Y-pipe with simulators but I have a guy telling me it wont run worth a crap without cat converters..will blow black smoke out & could cost maybe as much as $1200.00 to make it right.
I would think it would run ok without them & maybe redo computer at a later date sometimes if needed..Whats everyone else doing that is running LT headers with no cats?
Hes an exhaust man that thinks he is a professional tuner or something sounds like to me.
Please let me know some opinions
Thanks,Brian

I second that. I have 42,000 miles of Hooker Coated LT's and ORY. No oil burning or smoke. Keep in mind that the cats do soak up a little crap emmited from the exhaust but it's not any thing to cause damage to your car. Everybody has an opinion, respect it but don't listen to it.

I too have Hooker LT's and ORy-pipe. It runs a little richer since there are no cats, but other than that it's fine. I haven't had any problems just like everyone else posted.
Thats absolutely not true! I too run Hooker LTs, and never a problem. If the car runs a little rich with them, put a ported maf on there to lean it out, or get a MAFT. You'll be fine! ...Just don't listen to tards like that.
I run SLP LT's and off road pipes w/simms and have zero problems. Like was previously stated it seems a lil' rich at the lower RPM's. But the only problem may be pesky cops who don't like the rumble... Hope this helps.

Thanks guys..looks good to have so many positive votes on this..I didnt think it would be a problem but wanted to check first..
Jrz28>>What do you mean tunned in? What did you do?
Mobe>>Im gonna port MAF for sure & I also think that will help with any rich conditions to help lean it out a lil more..
I think everything will be fine..again thanks!!

All the cats do is decrease emissions of certain gases. Removing them will not cause the car to "run bad". That is just
It might not give you a huge power gain to remove them with stock internals, but with things like a cam or H/C or more, you'll notice nice gains

I have SLP LT's with ORY and no cats with LM. Mine runs fine. No black smoke -- just dirty quad CME tips after a week and a half of driving.
Go for it!
