Default Are SLP LTs Really Crap?

The next mod I have planned on getting is a set of LT headers. I have been looking at SLP but since joining this site a lot of people have really crapped on SLP. What does everyone recommend, keep in mind I only care about performance. Sound is really an afterthought, I want the most HP possible. I will also be running an off-road Y-Pipe with SLP Loud Mouth. Please give as much advice as possible before I blow $800+. Thanks

they arent crap its just they hang to low causing severe ground clearance issues and people have a hard time installing them, if you got 800 bucks to spend i recommend either stainless works headers or QTP, and best bet on offroad Y pipes would be to get a shop to fab you up a custom one as most aftermarket Y pipes bang the floorboard.

Not trash, but for the price they use cheap stainless that rusts and a cheap coating that doesn't protect much anyway.

My friend has some SLP's that are rusting after just one year!!!

Buy coated pacesetters and be done with it, they are much cheaper and don't hang low and have great fitment. All headers will give you about the same hp so you'll have more money to do other mods.

They are great quality and make good power. But as said they do hang a little low and is an issue for lowered cars.

I think they are great headers as long as you do not lower your car.

There are certain types of stainless that do rust, doesn't mean they're bad. A coating would cure that anyways...

The QTPs look nice, but I really like the price of the pacesetters, and there can't be a difference of more than a couple of horsepower right? (please let me know if otherwise). Can anyone give me a reason on why I shouldn't go with pacesetters LT or any suggestions on another brand.

I got a set that look great still... I have had them for 3 years and I bought them used. I think SLP changed their steel. They don't make the power IMHO

QTP uses a merge collector that will make more power than other conventional street headers.

As others have said, the SLP LTs aren't crap, they just hang really low on the passenger side header. I've had my SLP LTs on for 5 years, and they still look great with no rust. My car has consistantly made great numbers with them so they're not lacking in power IMO. My only gripe is the ground clearance issue, but I take it easy around rough roads and bumps with them and they very rarely scrape on anything at stock ride height. If you're going to spend that much money though, I'd say get some QTPs or Kooks.
