No cats and no muffler sounds like **** IMO, way to raspy and has no tone. Now with hi-flow/stock cats and no muffler, that doesn't sound bad IMO.

If ur gonna get a cutout for a DD, get an electric one. Theres no point in having a DD that loud, itll get old, and annoying. I know from experience. I love the sound of it thru my LT's and ORY at WOT, but its closed 90% of the time. doesnt sound very good with stock manis and cats IMO either

dude seriously, why do you hate on having a cutout .. Theres a reason why a cutout was made.. Its used for the power gains you see when the cutout is open . Then people (myself included) started taking a like to the way it sounds , which is rugged, off -road, and BAD-***, esp at WOT, while your car cant even be heard from like 40 feet away. Keep your cutout hating comments to your self

Relax, no need resort to name calling. I have Mac's and I uncapped my cutout and it sounded like COMPLETE ***. Sure it was super loud but last I check I wasn't still in high school where the loudest exhaust was the coolest.

I just put a cut-out on last week on a stock exhaust set up and ran back to back with it closed then opened and picked up .11 et and a little over 1 mph in the quarter on the same exact 60 ft. time so i feel it was accurate. Needless to say i was pleasantly surprised of the gains for such a small investment, i guess the stock muffler on our cars is pretty restrictive not to mention too quiet.

The best of both worlds is a bullet muffler before the cutout. It deepens and smooths out the tone and it doesnt rob power. Still nice and loud. Also bullets are cheap. $35

Yea, but there is no room for it. It would practically be rubbing the driveshaft or else hang down so low it would scrape all the time.

Do you mean the Y pipe or the I pipe? If Y pipe, then you'll need 2 cutouts and they will be smaller. If I pipe, then you'll need the one 3".

I have a 98 trans am with a cutout to the passenger exhaust pipe, yet the drivers side exhaust pipe still runs through the stock muffler. I am more or less happy with the sound, but I am wondering what would happen if I removed the muffler altogether and put in a straight pipe right out to the drivers side exhaust? I imagine it would be louder, but how much (I imagine the majority of exhaust goes out the passengers side due to less travel)? I know some of you say I could never quiet it (I could put in a plate now to do exactly that on the passengers side), but I have owned the car for over 2 years and have NEVER had any reason to quiet it ... it is a semi-daily driver.

So, the question, is there any benefits / downsides to eliminate the stock muffler on a car with a cutout already other than the extra money spent?

Current setup can be heard here: http://www.cmcarthur.com/videos/inte...ght_launch.mpg
