Default cut out with no exhaust

I have a 99 z28 that is pretty much bone stock, except air filter. If I were to put a cut out on the exhaust, would it still sound the same as cars with aftermarket exhaust and a cut out? Or will it sounds different since I still have the stock exhaust on? And what about performance?

cutouts always go before the muffler, so the exhaust doesnt effect the sound of puttin in a cutout at all. the muffler is completely bypassed so a car with say a borla catback and a cutout will sound the same as a stock exhaust with a cutout.

your car will sound like straightpipe ****. that's why a cutout is $35. you get what you pay for. if cutouts made your car sound GOOD, no one on this site would have a catback since they're 15 times more expensive.

as long as you have cats it is bearable for DD, its just really loud and has more drone b/c your dumping the exhaust under the car.

By aftermarket exhaust do you mean cat-back or longtubes/O/R Y?

A car with stock manifold and a cutout will sound different then one with longtubes and a cutout but other than that cats will be the only other difference.

No a cutout will not sound like a aftermarket catback.
Typically a aftermarket exaust will sound much deeper and more refined.

What a retard. Don't waste your time or money with a catback. Go with a cutout you will not be disapointed in the sound or the price. Total price is $100.00 or less installed. Can't beat that.

i dont have a cutout but i cut my muffler off and replaced it with a straight pipe (!muffler) and couldnt be any mroe happier with the sound. everyone else, even LS1 owners with nice catbacks, always compliment the sound and ask what i have done.

I have a cut out right now. I just couldn't handle running around as quiet as they do stock. It is just temp but with stock exhaust manifolds and cats a cut out is liveable and doesn't sound too bad either

A cutout on an exhaust system with NO muffler IS GOING to sound different than one WITH a muffler...NOT ALL the exhaust is diverted through the cutout..approx 75% is though. Just take a look at one..it is angled off...not cut-off....

go to www.myspace.com/freedayrn and listen to the vid. its a cutout on stock manifolds with no cats. maybe i am retarded but i think it sounds mean as hell. and i have several friends that like the way it sounds. go waste your money on a catback if you want.

be forewarned, its much louder in person and may not be suitable for a DD.

I would recommend an electric CO. Just keep the stock muffler. When the CO is closed you can have a nice quiet exhaust for long trips or when there's a cop behind you. Open it up all other times. With stock manifolds and cats the cutout is not too loud for a DD. I leave mine open all the time (DD, stock manifolds, cats). Love the sound.

If you were thinking of a manual cutout, I wouldn't. I would hate having to climb under the car all the time to change it.
