Gutted Cats I was having a defective clutch disc replaced in my 2002 SS and the cats were laying there on the floor at the dealership. I was so tempted to take a tire tool and knock all the ceramic out of them. Will this so called mod mess anything up? Would there be any benefits besides maybe a little louder exhaust note? Or am I just pissin in the wind? Any help appreciated. Thanks

Re: Gutted Cats Gutted cats sound nice with certain exhaust. You will probably pick up a couple of horses, but you should do it just to make your car sound bad *** not because you are looking to gain horsepower. Nothing bad is going to happen. Re: Gutted Cats i have a random tech y-pipe gutted cats, stock exhaust and (headers). I put 02 sims on the post cat plugs. There was a throttle response improvemnet. A little overall power improvement. as far as noise goes. . there was only a slight increase in noise coming out the back. on hard downshifts everyonce in a while a little backfire type noise will pop out. but the real noise difference comes out of the front of the car. the noise out of the airbox is significantly louder. almost sounds like an exhaust leak out of the front. this is on a 02 ws6. hope that helps.
Re: Gutted Cats Yeah dude you'll get maybe like 4 or 5 horses from it and your car will be a tiny bit louder not to metion sound better. The only thing you're going to need are 02 simulators because your sensors will pick up the extra carbondioxide going through and set off the SES light. The 02 sims will just tell the computer that things are normal and turn off the light.

Re: Gutted Cats See, no alterior motive here. I gained about 1.5 mph and .2 tenths after gutting cats, absolutely no other changes. I ran consistant 13 flat, gutted cats were what I needed to run in the 12's. Worked for me <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: Gutted Cats The O2 simulators will not help you pass an emissions test (which you will not be able to do with the gutted cats).
The simulators just fool the computer into thinking that there are still Cats & rear O2 sensors on the car.
