Is there anyway to adjust the throttle cable on a TCS car?
James
You can snug the cables from the TCS servo
(little pod on the passenger fenderwell)
and the cruise control, but the pedal run
(most important) is nonadjustable. Go figure.
So here's what I had to do on mine.
1) Snug the servo - TB cable, leave maybe
1mm slack. Just so it doesn't interfere
with closing.
2) Remove the underpanel from the dash that
covers the steering column base and the
area by your feet.
3) Get down in there and pull the gas pedal back
until its arm hits the firewall. Grab the end
of the throttle cable and pull gently until
you feel the resistance of the throttle
starting to move. Measure the length of the
excess cable, from the steel lever to the end
plug on the cable. Mine had about an inch of
slack.
4) Take a piece of 1/8" ID or smaller vacuum
hose. Cut it to length you measured, minus a
bit. Slit it lengthwise. Find some plastic
sleeving (heat-shrink), or cable ties, etc.
that will work to bind it up later. Slip the
vacuum hose over the cable, between the end
plug and the little plastic keeper. Slide the
sleeve over the plug and the vacuum hose, or
cable tie the two ends and the middle so it
won't let the plug force it apart or pucker.
I prefer the sleeving but any method that
works, will do.
5) Try it out. Block the gas pedal at full down
and check the throttle body. You should be
on the bump stop. Release the gas pedal, you
should be on the idle stop, a fast release
should give an audible closing "snap". If so,
you're done. If not, commence to shaving.
6) Put it all back together and enjoy the real
full throttle.
