Default Thoughts on Spiral Flow Mufflers?

I have Dynomax Bullet Mufflers on my dual setup right now. Looking for something different. The drone I am getting in 6th gear is unbearable, making 6th gear useless. If the RPMs are at 1500 or 2000, its ok. But the second you give it gas, anywhere in between 1500-2000 is gawd aweful!

Anyway... Looking at the Spiral Flows. Any opinions?

TIA

my friend and i had the spiral flow on our car. he sold his car and i switched mine to the bullet muffler. it sounds real good actually w/ the muffler. like he said not to loud and to quiet. i still have it if you are interested in purchasing one for half the price. i have the 3 inch inlet/outlet and it was only on the car for 3 days. only reason that i took it off b/c i got a new 18 inch bullet for $10 from a friend. impluse its a little to tame for my liking

A bullet muffler in the I-pipe would pretty much fix the problem. Non restrictive (see through design) and cheap.

I am interested in seeing some feedback about the spiral flow mufflers as well... I have heard that they are a bit less noisy than bullets while providing slightly better torque. I'm not sure that I buy into that, being as how they HAVE to be more restrictive than a bullet (which would explain why they aren't as loud).

Personally, I am looking for the least noisy setup possible without losing much power; I know that those two concepts are at odds with one another, but a recent dyno test of a H/C car in the internal engine section showed only @5 hp difference through the exhaust vs. open headers- that's what I call an efficient exhaust system (bullets after the collectors into a 4" Y-pipe with an Edelbrock 4" muffler out back). I am looking for something similar in performance (that is almost exactly my planned exhaust system; replace the Edelbrock with a Spintech, and there you go) but is as quiet as possible (since the car will make all the right noises no matter WHAT exhaust is on it) so as not to attract more attention from Johnny Law than I have to.

first setup was macs true dual dumped before the axle w/ bullets and that was god awful loud. second setup was macs w/ y pipe w/and the moroso spiral flow muffler and it sounded good. a little to tame for me like i said. third was macs w/ y pipe w/ the long bullet muffler dumped before the axle and it has about the tone i like.
hope this helps

I wonder what it would soundd like if I put 2 spiral flows after the bullets? Or should I put them before the bullets? Would placement make much difference?

hmmm...

this week i have 3" duals w/ an X and 2 Flo-Pro Twisters (spiral flow muffers) that are 18" and i got the same peak HP and TQ but i gained 30 ft lbs in the low midrange!!!!!!!! that should speak for it self.

I think the "drone" is mostly due to the firing order of the LS1. I have owned all kinds of performance cars from 1957 to present and none had the so-called "Drone" problem.
I really don't have a drone problem now with my LS1; just a nice deep tone.
Check Sig for my exhaust setup.

Since you are running true duals, why not weld in a couple of 3" (I know 2.5 inner core) chambered mufflers?

Thanks Glenn! That helps some. Nice numbers

Mike, Clearence is a BIG factor. What chambered mufflers are you refering to?

highgear, I wonder if you not having drone is credited to you having cats?

Thanks Guys!

Thanks a million!

Just what I needed to hear. Yet, I wonder how it would sound if I ran both. Would it be too quiet? Or would it make the bullets obsolete?
