Default K&N FIPK For my 2000 LS1

I was just wondering if anyone has tried the K&N FIPK #57-3022-2 for their LS1. I have a 2000 Trans Am with a factory WS6 Ram Air Hood, but it has the steel hood air box. They had a write up on it in FSC magazine, 15 rwhp gain. Will This work, and is it worth the $350? Thanks, Ryan

Will it work? Yes. Will it work better than a lid? Not really.

Most testing shows that they pretty much get the same gains. The question is would you rather spend $100 on a lid or $300 on the FIPK? The only real difference is the look, not performance.

P.S. Who's charging $350? You can get it from a sponsor for $299. LS1Speed for instance.

I have the FIPK and If I had to do it again I probably would go with a lid. Im pretty damn sure I didnt gain 15rwhp. id say more around 7-10rwhp. From just seeing some of the lids online I would probably go with 1 of those clear lids(dont remeber where I saw 1 at though). The FIPK does look pretty good under the hood and the install is pretty easy took maybe about a hour and 30 mins.

I have the K&N in my car now. Over the stock intake, diffinetly an improvement but I couldn't tell you how much. Far from 15 hp though. I'm switching to the Volant because I like the idea of it being sealed off from the hot engine air as well as how it looks. But most people on here say lids make more power.

I have a FIPK and agree it pulls in hot air from the engine bay. I have made a cover for it and plan to use it with a FTRA setup. So hopefully this will bring down the IAT readings for me.

Thanks for all the responses. Like I said I have a ram air hood without the ram air box. Is this allowing the hood to function or not? K&N is charging about $350 for it. Thanks
