Default baffles removed??

I recently got an 01 ws6, it will be a daily driver, I have on my list to do with in days, new lid, holly power shot. My question is the people I read about that have removed the baffles are you daily drivers I am in the south and worry about all the rain. also smooth bellows, worth it or not. Thanks

I've had my baffles removed for a really long time and have had no problems. You can hear the air moving through them now at low speeds (slight whistling) which is cool. No problems with the rain at all (you could always make the back baffle into a rain blocker if you really wanted to).

Smooth bellows won't really give you any hp, just more appearance wise. If you're thinking of the $50 SLP, then it's a real ripoff. You can find almost the same thing other places that carry hoses a lot cheaper.

Thank you chris, You have done almost all of the performance mods that I want to do! with the exception of the rear end gonna leave that alone for now. You mentioned the rear adjusted for rain?? the rear one is what I was going to cut down, leaving about an inch?? I read some where else to stay away from the front baffle. you run programming?? hpp3, pred, ls1 edit?? with the mods you have do I need any of the above??

Thanks agian,

Pete

Pete,

I removed both my front and rear baffles. At first I was a little nervous about taking off the front ones (left them on for a while), but finally I did it and nothing bad has happened. This was last summer I removed them and the car has been in countless rainstorms and under so much snow but it's fine. You'll get a little more dirt on your filter, but it's worth it.

What I was talking about the rear baffle is, technically after you take it out (by drilling the rivets), you could always get a couple screws and put it in if it were raining and you were really nervous about it. The only way you'd have a problem is if you got a ton of water thrown in at once, but I still think it would be ok b/c the filter doesn't face the baffles directly, it faces downward, so you aren't forcing water up there.

I run Hypertech programming for the gears and for the 160* thermostat. I don't run the power programming though b/c it was giving me knock (checked with ATAP). I also run a MAF Translator to compensate for my MAF ends which run me a little lean on the top end (set to 4% rich at WOT). I'll eventually get LS1edit, but I figured it wouldn't be worth it until I at least got a cam. I got the HPP3 b/c it was in a package with my gears for cheaper plus the predator wasn't out yet .

Yeah, stay away from the rear if you can. 12 bolts are not cheap and it's no fun breaking the 10 bolt. I stripped 5 teeth off my Motive 4.10's in my 10 bolt (It was still drivable though).
