Sadly, that is common with Jet Hot coating. I have Jet Hot coated Hooker LTs and they were installed on 11/18/02. The car was only on the road for 3 weeks before it was put into storage in early December and thats where its sat until now. I was under my car this past weekend and I have surface rust like you do.

I have heard numerous complaints from other members having surface rust on Jet Hot's coating.

I went through the archives and it seems like alot of people are having this problem. My uncoated catback still looks brand new, but two inches away on my Y there is rust
I'm beginning to wonder why I paid the extra money for the coating

Default Is this normal for my hookers to rust

I bought these headers about 6 months ago and have only had them on my car for about 3 months. I got them ceramic coated for Jet Hot so this wouldn't happen. I do live in Michigan, but I put a very minimal amount of millage on over the winter. There is one spot on the collector where the coating is beginning to chip of. Should I be concerned?

If these are actual Jet Hot coatings, has anyone made a warranty claim? The website says lifetime rust through warranty. From those pics, it looks like a couple re-do's are in order.
Any info anyone has on this would be greatly appreciated.

I would except I don't have the means to take them off, send them in, and then reinstall them. I'm a broke college student that needs my car every day.

After all these years, you would think that the companies that do this would have come up with something more durable. Or at least trying too. Maybe that's about as good as it gets with steel.

I've decided to wait till it gets worse. The half up at the heads still looks fine, so instead of pulling them off every so often i'm just gonna wait till it gets bad then send them in.

Not what I was looking to hear. I am in the market for some LTs and drive my car year round in MI. Looks like the QTP 304 stainless is the way to go when corrosion is a concern.

I have stainless and even they have surface rust. As long as that's as far as it goes I'm not going to worry about it since this isn't a show vehicle. If it rusts thru the stainless is warrantied against that. It does seem strange that moisture is getting thru the ceramic coating on some header and rust is leaching thru to the surface.

Rust on stainless! Is there any reprieve for those of us in the salt belt? If we're seeing rust on headers with $200 ceramic coating, and even surface rust/discoloration on stainless what will work?
Headers and ORY are at the top of my next-to-get list and it would be nice to have them at least look good for a while.
What about those northern folks with SLPLT's, and other stainless and ceramic coated designs? How do they hold up?

Hmm. Just installed Hooker Jet Hots on my SS, and you all panicked me. So I called them myself to find out the deal. Their response was "the water/air have iron depositis in them and they are sticking to the header". Hmm, I'm no chemist so I cannot refute their claim but they also provided a solution. Clean em good and polish em with aluminum polish. If you try that, let us all know please.

Jet Hot's response from LS1.com

I haven't been contacted yet, I just read this today. I've already taken this to the vice president of the company. He has written a response he would like to present to the everyone that was part of the thread and/or had a problem. This is taken very seriously, LS1.com members have always been very good to jet hot. It is important that they are satified with Jet Hot's product. If they have a problem, Jet Hot needs to resolve it. Here is what was written:

All of us here at Jet-hot are car enthusiasts and want all of our customers to be happy with our product. Reference complaints we have received from some of you that you have experienced rust problems with your coated parts. PLease be advised that "rust" on Jet-Hot coated parts is usually surface rust. What happens is that water that drips from the surrounding uncoated areas on the coated part has a high iron content. When this water evaporates, the iron particles left behind will rust. The actual solution was identified by one of you(Hitman). He states "I found that just a little bit of polish will take it(rust) right off and sometimes it will come off just with finger pressure." The other way parts can rust is if you overheat the exhaust to over 1300 degrees F. If you wish to return these parts, we will recoat them at no cost to you and pay the transport both ways. Please keep in mind what another one of you(constrictor) stated, " I don't want this thread to be taken as flame towards Jet -Hot because they are doing a job offering the F-body community great prices on LT headers".

We do appreciate all the comments positive and negative, but they need to be fair and balanced so that we can provide you with proper service. Please send us your comments directly by faxing at 610-277-0135 or mail Chris at chris@jet-hot.com and we will send you a FREE Jet-Hot hat or t-shirt.

Thanks
Chris
