if its not that the only thing that could be burning is your 02 wires (your plug wires wont melt)

all i can say is start it up, let it run and keep a close eye on everything... like i said before you prolly just have some crap on the header that needs to burn off
As for the plug wires you should be able to just move them around a bit to make sure they are not touching. As for the idle, look at the plug wires and see if they are wobbling on the plugs when the motor is on, if so push them down nice and tight. Make sure all those wires are seated properly on the coil packs and plugs.
It sounds to me like everything is actually alright and you are just a bit paranoid
i would undestand if it had gotten something on the header , but it still continues to smoke....i would think it would of already burnt off..
JUST FOR THE RECORD IT IDLES AT AROUND 600 RPM....
The plug wires will be fine, I've had 2 sitting on the header primary since Dec and they aren't burnt, and don't seem to be suffering any ill effects due to the contact IMO I wouldn't worry about it
If you really want to spend the money, get a set of LS2 wires, they're a 90* boot and offer more clearance than the stock straight booted wires

the reason why headers run better after a week of driving is because over the course of the week, you eventually complete a few driving cycles. if you manually do them exactly, you'll be good in a few HOURS. do a couple, you'll see good results.
took it to auto zone, got it scanned and it threw 1 code P0118. did a search and it s got to do somethingwith the temp sensor. the guy at auto zone looked it up and said that the car was running hotter than normal. but my temp gauge is normal. so he said that it might be the sensor. so i ordered one and it should be here tomorrow. the ses light came on yesterday ...but its been off since 9 pm last night. where exactly is the temp sensor??
can someone plz reply to my question from earlier this morning?? about the spark plug wire touching the header.
