Default Intake Lid

Im looking to buy a 98 TA ram air that has high miles on it. It drove fine but when I popped the hood it didnt have a lid on it. I was just wonder how bad is it to drive around without a lid?

Without a lid? I wouldn't let the car sit without a lid! The motor with all that inlet of air pulling in all that dirt and god knows what else...ouch man!I would think if you plan on buying anything that costs money, and I'm sure it will or did you would at lest pop the hood to look under it. Have you ever owned a car?

I havent bought the car, i just test drove it. When we got back i looked under the hood. There was no lid that covers the intake. I could see the K&N drop-in sitting there. I know its not good to drive without one but i'm asking should i even bother with a car that may have been driven without one?

Are you sure it wasn't just a clear lid?

Seriously, though that's crazy to drive around and not have a lid at all. Unless he's got the pantyhose mod over the inlet or something, its pulling unfiltered air which is not a good idea. I'd have some serious doubts about this car and/or its owner.

What type of hood did it have? Some of the aftermarket hoods use a different style of induction setup. The air comes into the face of the filter, then into the motor. It is TOTALLY different than a stock LS1 setup. Check that out before you freak out.

Hey 642642 - Were you looking at the K&N filter and right above it looking into the MAF leading to the TB? If not then it is an aftermarket set up.

BTW - I couldnt get the pic link to work.

Think again.

Go to the fourth pic down on this link:

This is most likely what this kid was looking at. Is it making sense yet? With almost 2000 posts, I would think you would be more up on this stuff.

That was a good link. That is an aftermarket hood. Now go to the link I posted above and you will see a pic of EXACTLY what you saw on the car you are looking to buy.

And just so you know it is an ACCEPTABLE induction setup.

Alright! Thanks guys for all the help. Now that I've got that out of the way, time for me to start reading up on these cars. Big different between the T/A and the car i have now.
