Default Replacement for Corsa muffler, suggestions?

First, just wanted to say hello to everyone. First post here, usually on the SLP or CamaroZ28 boards, but this site seems more technically oriented/competent and have more useable information.

Anyway, have the Corsa exhaust for over a year, and really think its too quiet and doesn't have the sound I really want. It also is causing my rear tail pipe to resonate badly in cold weather.

Was thinking of a new catback, but figured that if I could just replace the muffler, be easier and cheaper. Just looking for something louder and better sounding. Don't care what it sounds like at WOT - I want a better sound at idle and driving around town (deeper, more muscular). I'll replace the whole catback if I have to, but hope to just find a direct replacement muffler (only catback I was thinking of was the GMMG, but lots of money for that).

Anyway, done numerous searches, and never seen someone switch out their Corsa. So, anyone have any suggestions or has anyone actually just switched out the Corsa muffler? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I don't like the Corsa sound either(a little too exotic or high-pitched).

One guy on CamaroZ28.com actually swapped out his Corsa muffler for a Flowmaster 80 series muffler for the same reasons you want to. Apparently he's much happier with the sound.

Personally, I would just sell your whole Corsa cat-back and replace it with a new one. I had the GMMG on my last LS1 and re-installed it on my new LS1 and it easily has the most muscular sound to it of any other cat-back I've heard yet on the LS1's(especially at WOT ). Overall, it is kinda quiet at idle on a stock cammed car, rumbles noticeably at cruise, and just has a great deep/throaty tone. This system is very similar to the chambered systems that were used on the older muscle car's(69 Z28's, etc...).

True dual set-ups also have a wonderful sound if you don't mind dumping the exhaust before the axle(but the interior noise is really bad this way though).

No single replacement muffler itself will do the trick for you(their all too quiet). You could buy a stock I-pipe and put a Dynomax bullet muffler on it and run a Y-pipe set-up(straight pipes) out the rear which would be cheap. But it is kinda unrefined that way. And stay away from the Borla or SLP Loudmouth if you want a deeper, more muscular sound.

Hope this helps,

Mike

I really am leaning toward the GMMG, just hate that I spent $700 on the Corsa and now am thinking of spending $700 more for another exhaust. I like the Corsa tips, may still keep them, but ....

Anyway, have to think this one over for awhile, hate to rush into something. The LM and Borla are definitely out for me, heard both of them, don't like the way they sound at all (LM drone is down right nasty). Thanks again.

You might want to think about getting some LT headers. That will definately change the tone of your corsa.

You have not experienced the true potential until you put a set of LTs on. Do this first!

Your welcome Scott. If you can sell your Corsa for a good amount of $$$(maybe $500) and don't mind spending some more big $$$ for the GMMG, it will be well worth it once you hear your new exhaust. I don't really like the sound of LS1's, but I'm actually very happy with the tone of the GMMG(sounds all muscle, no nascar). With LT headers and highflow cats, it sounds unlike any other F-body I've ever heard(very comparable to true duals minus the awful drone).

And this is just my opinion, but I still didn't care for the Corsa even with headers and no cats. Very loud screamin/raspy sound from the one I heard up close in person.

Good luck!

Look at ATR catbacks. I have had a about 15 different exhaust combos and liked it and Borla the best.
