Burning smell from under hood...

I took the car for a ride last night and the wife said she saw smoke come from under the hood. I was really close to home so when I got there I looked and did not see smoke but could smell it. Seemed like it came from the pass. side of the car. No evidence of charing or anything. Only thing touching the headers is a wire harness with heat shielding. All my gauges read fine so it did not apear to overheat. Almost smelled like burnt water. Did not really smell like plastic or rubber. Anyone have any ideas? I would like to go to the track on Firday but if this is a problem I do not want to chance it as I have to drive 70 miles to get there.

Had you been working on it? Might have been crap burning off the headers.

Best thing to do is let the car idle in your driveway for a while and keep and eye on it, might want to keep a water-hose handy too.

Have not touched it in a while. I even had it to the track and it it 70 miles away. This came out of no where. I may have to just let it sit there and watch it. I am just affraid of causing more damage if that is what it is doing.

if you had your a/c on, the condesation could've been dripping down on the header.

or you could have a small oil leak some where that is dripping down there also.

It did not smell like oil and ther air was not on.

a/c condensation? from compressor? dont know how that is possible because the compressor is below the headers, do you mean from the dryer lines maybe? think your girl friend is nuts, she must have something planned for you and her to do on friday that doesnot include you at the track.. LOL
