Default custom gmmg!!!

ok i just got back from the exhaust shop and all i can saw is
WOOOHOOOO!!!
there was no way i was gonna pay 700 for gmmg so i decided to create my own. i started with a flowmaster premade y and a 180* u-bend and two of sweet thunders chambered tubes and finished off with some nice ss chevelle tips. i wish i had pics but wont for a day or two and not sure on a sound clip but will get them. sound is amazing deep throaty and suprisinly not excessivly loud but its not quite by anymeans either, i love it!
and its tucked up nicley too!
it sounds real close to the gmmg if ya ask me and for less than 300 im not complaing

hope to have pics soon

i would like 2 see those pictures. It's true $700 for a GMMG is too much. Could you say your system sounds better than true duals. I always liked chambered exhaust systems. Can wait. --ArNiE

What specs did u use to make this system? I'm interested. You should here a sound clip of the true duals to check if your system sounds better.go to www.laneswheels.com to here a sound clip. Did u cut the flowsmaster to make them into chambers or did u buy them?ThAnX

Hahahahhahaha..........hahahahhha.. Do you happen to have any dyno #s before this system was put on? If so Ill guarantee ya lost horsepower since the install. I have a REAL GMMG on my car and it looks NOTHING like that. Way too many kinks and tight bends to even be thought of as anything close to an actual GMMG. Nice try though and as long as ya like it thats all that really matters

i just gave him a picture of the gmmg system, NO FLOWMASTER MUFFLER just there premad ypie 3"in dual 2.5" out,

as for "loss of power " id say no way in hell, she pulls much better and revs quicker not just in my head either, no dynos done yet only had the car a few weeks, should i have done a dyn run first yea, but to late now

as for the kinks? they arnt all that bad to be honest and mandrel bends dont mean a hole lot till 500+ hp, maybe 1-2hp loss over mandrel bends, the tighest bend the 180 is mandrel though,

plus i love the sound and power difference

true duals still have a slight edge do to the fact that all the clips on that page have headers, i dont yet

Congrats on the setup, but honestly that isn't even close to a GMMG. I also have a GMMG under my car - just like Cammin - and yours looks like what it is - a muffler guy having some fun with the welder.

Have you seen a GMMG to compare? There is quite a difference. And mandrel bends do make a difference.

I am all for cheaper alternatives, and as long as you are happy then congrats, but honestly that isn't the same level as a true GMMG.

other than the mandrel bends and the fact that my y is at the mufflers instead of over the axle, both inlets are on the same side intead of going around the 180 first

i never said it was suppose to be exact but damn close, and sound wise right there for alot less and its something different which is also nice

For the record, I would change your signature. GMMG has a patent on their exhaust and they could put a lawsuit on ya if they wanted for using the term "custom GMMG". Just trying to help ya out, besides as Classic and I said, its nothing like a true GMMG. Chambers are different, bends are different, tips are different. BTW, the GMMG uses stainless from the Intermediate pipe ALL the way back.

di you not see what i said, i know its not exact, but im not spending 700+ tips for a cat back and would rateher have my own style tips anyway, like said before its my CUSTOM setup, not to exaclty duplicate, as for the stainless im not worried, i change my mind to often for it to rust anyway,
now i just have to wait for the dyno shops to open arond here

I believe what Cammin was getting at is that you might want to change your sig to read:
"custom chambered catback"
not custom GMMG

All I have to say is that you get what you pay for and GMMG is one of, if not the best sounding exhaust out on the market...

I think it looks good. It has been done before too. I've always liked the sound of the Sweet Thunder chambered mufflers as well. As far as mandrel bending goes, I definately think there is an advantage to having it. The question is whether or not you are making enough horsepower to actually see it. Who knows. Good job. I guess I would be a little defensive too if I paid over $700 for a catback and then someone found a cheaper way to replicate it(almost but not exactly). Good luck with it

Kieth,

first off, nice going. what you did is hotrodding at it's best form, ingenuity. ;D some people will like it, some wont.

"If so Ill guarantee ya lost horsepower since the install"

wow.. thats pretty intelligent. you come up with that all on your own?

BTW why? if he had a stock exhaust before and now has this, how did he loose HP? oh wait nevermind, you think that if somone posts something in they're sig on the internet that a company would want to file a lawsuit over it.

now im not one much to jump in on other people's conversations when it's none of my business, but when i see somone that thinks that just because they bought something that cost 700$ it's automatically better than somone who made their own, and that kinda errks me. call me crazy but 90 percent of the junk in my car is made by myself and not by any sponsor, i wouldnt have it any other way. major props Pewter,

and im off my soap box.

Nice job Keith! Chambered mufflers rock don't they? I'm curious to know how the Sweet Thunders sound compared to the GMMG- must be pretty similar though.

First off - I didn't pay 700 for my GMMG. Not even close actually, and I gought it new. However - I do not think that just becasuse it costs $700 it is better quality than something that is less expensive just because of the cost difference. There is a difference - stainless vs. non for starters.

Not to rain on your parade. As I said earlier - I am all for cheaper alternatives, but I'd still pay the price for the GMMG.

Clas,

my eariler response was geared more towards another person in this thread and not so much towards you. no-one's dissing GMMG here. im sure it's a great catback and if you got it for cheaper, more power to you. my issue is that some people will make fun of somone just because they attempt to do things diffrently when there is no set "right" or "wrong" way to do anything.

I'm glad you like your exhaust. The people that are making fun of those that have gmmg are idiots. Those that have GMMG exhaust are trying to tell you (from experience) that the fellas at GMMG worked very hard to create that exhaust. They spent countless hrs on a dyno to create the best possible exhaust that creates the most horse power along with a good quality sound. They would add chambers, remove chambers and everything. The system may be expensive, but it has been proven to be the best. Also, Cammin did not bad mouth your set up, but was letting you know that you get what you pay for. He also warned you about your sig., because several people from GMMG are on this board. If you read his reply, you will also see that he said You liking it is all that matters. Enjoy.
