Why has the cut out gotten quieter?

My dad has a cut out mounted on the i-pipe on his 99 Z28. It use to make alot of noise but now it seems as if it has quieted down. My dad usually drives around with a custom cap that he made which is half open compared to wide open without the cap. We recently took off the cap and now the car doesn't seem to be any louder. Anybody know whats up? Thanks

It's probably not that it has gotten quieter, but rather you have adjusted to the sound thus making you think its quieter.

hmmm. I don't think my dad has adjusted to the sound because he use to whine about it all the time. Maybe he has adjusted because my car makes his sound stock. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I never thought about the cats. The car only has 52k miles on it. It might just be time for an ORP or gutted cats.
