Is it illegal Is it true that it is illegal to change our stock exhaust manifolds to headers or is that a myth? Because i want to put the mac mid-length headers with cats and y pipe on my car but i dont want to be harassed more than i already am. If it is illegal how would i get around it every year for emissions?

Re: Is it illegal techncally it is illegal to 'move' ur cats from their stock location, which all mid and LT headers do... but, most inspection places don't realize that, or know where they're 'supposed' to be, so as long as they see the cats, ur ok, BUT, some places DO know where they supposed to be... so its hit or miss, unless u know someone, or ur state isn't that thorough...

Re: Is it illegal ya i think it varies from state to state. but i have a local guy that does mine that only writes the vin on the sticker and writes down the license plate # and slaps it on. no inspection/drive/anything to see if you are "legal". <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> so.....no cats for me <img border="0" alt="[burn out]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_burnout.gif" />

Re: Is it illegal If you want to go by the book then it states that any modification or alteration to the stock exhaust system is illegal. Basically theu are saying that you can't even change mufflers unless it's with the stock one, No cop or ETS(Emissions Testing Services) are going to check it out that well. All they care about is if you're car passes or it doesn't. The headers might not be legal with an emissions sytem.
