it has direction on the can. It very simple. just take off the brake booster line and pour the seafoam in while the engine is idling, try to keep the engine running even though it will want to die, pour slowly. Once can is gone turn off the car, go in the house and drink 6 beers and come back out and start the car up and drive it a few miles until the smoke is not coming out of the exhaust anymore.

It will smoke like crazy at first, dont worry about that, just get out the neighborhood quick, your neighbors will hate you for smoking up the block.

Don't you have to change the plugs and oil after you seafoam or is that only if you do it a certain way?

have you ever considered you both may have just a simple bad knock sensor? I know one year was really sensitive, if you go this far, then you can really get the carbon out of the intake, cause it is off the car.

You can pour it in the throttle body too, its basically the same thing as it going through the brake booster, both ways lead to the manifold. My manifold doesnt get nasty and I have the pcv too.

I think we need a sticky dedicated to seafoam here since there have been tons of threads about seafoam too.

here's a quick writeup on seafoam for an LT1 Z28. same instructions apply to LS1's.

if you want to clean the carbon build up, do it like a man - hit that bitch with a 150 shot once a week, that will keep your **** clean.

the 98's have over sensitive knock sensors.

the lower, closed-loop range.

Single injector delivery problems likewise will show
little or no indication at lower flows, but limit the
shot into one cylinder as sediment obstructs the
screen. Factory misfire settings mask high-RPM,
WOT misfires so you don't get a good indication.
Some tools let you do injector balance tests which
might help you determine if this is going on (used
to be, you'd just pull the plugs but pulling some of
the plugs kind of sucks, here).
I actually did get my fan settings lowered before the recorded run. I went from the factory 226*/234* to 208*/212*. My fuel filter was replaced and the intake manifold, combustion chamber, and the fuel injectors were cleaned all at the same time and mileage (7,000 miles ago). As for the misfiring, I did see small values quickly creep up and disappear in the cylinder misfires parameter when the car was simply rolling to a stop. Is this a normal thing or is it just a sign that something is wrong with my plugs and/or wires (even though the plugs, but not the wires were replaced 4,000 miles ago)? What tools will let me do injector balance tests? Is it common for LS1 people to replace their injectors to eliminate knock retard? Thanks in advance for the info.

I'll keep the carbon buildup thing in mind, but like I just said in my above reply, I had the dealership clean the intake manifold, combustion chamber, and the fuel injectors--and that was only 7,000 miles ago. I don't think I can get carbon buildup that fast.

The day when the run was recorded with Autotap was very hot. It was 95*F and very humid. I think I've been getting knock retard for a while, but it's just now that I discovered it since I just bought my Autotap quite recently.

If you can't find Seafoam I highly recommend GM Top Engine Cleaner. You can pour it in the brake booster but I like using the line going to the TB. It'll get the intake much better than the booster.

for all those interested, i have lived up to my word. i have posted an official guide to seafoaming your car in the general maintence & repair section. check it out if you will. hopefully a mod will sticky it. seafoam poses a lot of questions on this site.
