Default question about ssra & ftra??

first of all do these systems replace your stock air box or do you need one of these and an aftermarket lid?? Any advice as to which one to use and did it affect your running temp? What are the expected hp gains from using a ram air type system vs. using say an mti lid? sorry for all the questions, just undecided and need clarification! Thanks

Well the FTRA and SSRA hvae nothing to do with the lid. You'll still want to run a SLP, MTI, etc lid.

I noticed a few degrees warmer with the FTRA(I have an autometer water temp gauge so it's accurate). I don't know the EXACT HP increase but I did notice a nice difference with mine.

I have the SSRA2, but it's not installed. It's basically an FTRA, but it's plastic (which I think is a good thing since it probably won't heat soak like steel). I bought them from ss1le02 last year.

There's an SSRA-2?!? The SSRA I'm familiar with is a 2 piece deal and the scoop opening is forward under the front bumper. The pictures above look more like the SLP CAI.

The SSRA I'm familiar with is plastic versus almuminum on the FTRA. They're both good and they both work. With the SSRA you have to be a little more careful when parking so as not to hit the scoop on the curb, but it may be a little better in getting cooler air to the engine. Personally, I'd take whichever is cheaper.

I have a few vendors sell this version of the SSRA. It's just like the FTRA/SLP except it's plastic and a little bigger dimensionally than those. It's for people who don't want the scoop. I call it the SSRA2.

also, to answer your question about the airbox. the ram air directs airflow directly to the under side of the airfilter, u can have a stock airbox or any aftermarket lid. u need to have the stocker or a lid...the twin cone filter intake will not benefit from this ram air
