either TDs w/single chamber flowmasters, or some Spintechs.

The spintechs sounds pretty damned bad ***.

the ls1 will never sound "old school" because its not an "old school" motor, but chambered exhaust is practicaly as old as mucle cars, so I dont see how voting for gmmg means you are young, or a newbie.

Also, does the LQ cast iron engines really sound different? I remember reading about someone with a 408ci complaining about rasp. think the 408ci is built off a LQ9 block (basically a cast iron LS1).

I agree. Mustang GTs have been using aluminum blocks for a few years and their sound hasn't changed.

i disagree. they have never sounded as good as a 5.0. my cousin has an '02 GT and it just doesn't compare. the new mustangs are a disgrace. they sound so shitty.

http://video.ls1tech.com/video/35255...867ec6abab.htm <-- edit: video works.

i find this to be very sexy. at the time of the video, the mufflers were still "new"...anyone that has 4x9 magnaflows knows that they continually get louder the more use they get. they are louder now and combine the perfect mix of VERY deep rumble from idle to 3/4 throttle, then almost raspy loud @ wot. i think they are sechs - hence my purchase.

again, Ls1's just dont sound old school, but I was refering to your comment about how someone must be young to think a gmmg sounds old school, because they were on 60's camaros. thats not old school?

Why are the y-pipe setups (gmmg, magnaflow, loundmouth) even in the poll? I've heard gmmg, magnaflow, and loudmouth in person and NO WAY are they "old school." NHRAMAN has it right: if you think those sound "old school," then you don't know what old school sounds like.

True duals are what you want for old school sound. I should know; I have 'em. And a lumpy cam.

[edit: fixed typo of who I thought had it right]

You know do you?

So you're telling me EVERY old car had a lumpy cam and duals??????

Old school is a percpetion and a Y pipe can sound "similar" when going down the road.

Chambered mufflers like the GMMG should also count as I belive GM used them in 69 on the Corvette.

So the question is "what is old school" once you know the answer then it's a lot easy to define how to acheive something similar with a LS1.

I dont know how else to say this without spelling it out word for word...CHAMBERED EXHAUST CAME FACTORY ON 1ST GEN CAMAROS, SO SAYING IT IS NOT OLD SCHOOL MAKES ABSOLUTELY NO SENSE.
There is no EXACT exhaust that is going to provide you with THE old school sound, because there were different exhausts used back then, just like today. I will never say GMMG is the end all of exhausts, but I like my sound with LT's cats and GMMG. Get off your high horse, your LS1, true duals or not, will never sound like a big block from the 60's.

Single Chamber flowmasters sound awesome. I personally run 3" TD Sweet Thunders dumped at the axle. IMO it is the most superior exaust you could ever put on an fbody. Since a loudmouth is on the **** end of the spectrum, you could say that if it equals a 1 on a scale of 1 - 10 then Sweet Thunders would be a 10.5, as long as you have no cats and long tubes.
