Just Bought z28, What kind of Headers? I just sold my 02 mustang gt to get my 99 z28. It came with an slp exhaust, slp air filter lid and kn air filter. I want to put headers on it. Which kind are good for around or under 500$? and should i get long tube or short tube headers because i dont know what the difference is?
First off good choice ditching the Mustang... if it has an SLP Exhaust on it, it's probably loud-mouth and will pretty much sound like crap if you run headers... but that's personal preference so you can always get headers and decide if you like the sound. I would recommend getting either Hooker or Pacesetter headers if you have around $500 to spend, opt for the additional ceramic coating which will cost a little more but is totally worth it. And get LT's if you can, because they are suited much better for these cars. Check out some of the LS1Tech sponsors, usually they have what your looking for with the best prices around. Longtubes flow ALOT better, which gives better gains, you can get pacesetters from a sponser for 500 bux with a y pipe which is a hell of a deal, I would def. go with Longtubes over shorties b/c shorties hardly give any gain and really aint worth the money unless you find a used set.
shorties are a waist of money IMO on these engines because the factory manifolds, expecially the 01-02 design, are very close. for $500 go with coated pacesetters with a Y-pipe. For me I'd want high flow cats if u have the loudmouth, it'll help keep it a lil more mellow and not as raspy ( I hate the loudmouth ).

if you live in cali, try to find a used set of shorties. if you live anywhere else, go for pacesetters and an ORY. the cats arent needed, but like stated above, it would be recommended you get em so itll bring the rasp down since you have the loudmouth. i think TSP has a deal for pacesetters and an ORY. you should check them out. they're a sponsor to the right--->
