Clutch chatter/headers hitting k-member
are there any quick solutions? I have absolutely no time within the next month or two to put motor mounts on (do i have to take the headers off to put the motor mounts on?)... and this is my daily driver which I drive through 500 red lights a day with the headers hitting the k-memeber 60% of the launches...
There seemed to be plenty of clearance when I put the headers on (an inch or more in the place where they are actually hitting)...
I guess this is going to be a costly mistake on my part! It might force me to put the stock crap back on and be out about a grand and sink my moral into the realm of me never touching my car again
...so any input would be nice...
. I honestly thought they would be alright with only 50k on my car (my lt1 had 180k on it with aftermarket clutch and the stock mounts were fine! I should have never sold that car)
If it's hitting the floorboard, there's no cutting that out of the way, maybe a hammer and a 2x4 will make some room.
I'd get yoruself a set of motor mounts.. and plan a weekend to get them in there. Removing the headers (as much as you probably don't want to do that at this point) will make the job pretty easy. Just support teh motor with a good jack, and a 2x4 across underneath it.
Thanks for the help!
I know to get polyeurethane mounts, but are there any reputable brands that I may be better off buying?
I really appreciate the help...I guess lesson learned on my end (hopefully it won't be a $500+ lesson!)

No, They're not hitting the heat shield...if I look under the passenger's side, I can see the scars on the headers on the side facing the passenger's side of the car where the headers are hitting the k-member. The cats are rattling against the heat shield, though. I guess I'll get the bump stop from Thunder Racing.
I'm getting discouraged because everytime I touch this car something goes wrong. Plus, this is the car I drive to work and to meetings every day, and every time I get off the line I'm thinking "that loud banging is the sound of my $400 headers hitting the k-member and there's nothing I can do about it because I have no time to fix it and no down time to get someone else to fix it (even it I would allow them) until about mid september". It sucks to hear that every time i let out of the clutch.
I there a certain type of motor mount I need for a light bolt-on? I'd like to go ahead and order the parts in case i do get a chance to do it.
