Default Autometer adapter?

OK bought a autometer electric coolant temperature senser and was going to install it in the M12x1.5 hole in the back of the passenger block. I ordered the M12x1.5 adapter from autometer and it screws into the block but the temp sensor FROM autometer wont screw into the adapter. Both are 1/8 pitch thread but the sensor itself is too big to fit through the adapter and screw on. What do you guys use to install these temp sensors?

One or the other isn't 1/8NPT if they aren't threading together. Do you have a pic?

ill try and find one but the problem is that the threads are NOT meeting b/c the sensor on the tip of the temp sensor is so thick it will not go all the way through the adapter

I bought the same setup, and I know what you are talking about. There is like a ring inside the adapter, and the 1/2" long cylinder on the sender won't fit down so the threads can even start threading together. That link above says to drill it out. I haven't done it yet, since I can see myself smoking the $8.95 adapter I paid for. So for now, until I can read up on some more info, adapter/water temp gauge is sitting in the Summit box it came in.

Try NAPA up they sell a kit as well might be a bit different.

I was able to get away with drilling and tapping a M12x1.5 bolt and using that as a sensor boss worked great. Took up alot less room, made it easier to get #8 plug when changing.

Or you could order the Equus Adapter Kit from AutoBarn online. That is what most are using. The 12mm x 1/8"FNPT adapter has the appropriate sized ID to allow the sensor bulb to fit in with no problems.

If you do a search for info like this on the forum before starting the job - more than likely you will find the info you need prior to buying items/starting the job. This has been gone over probably a hundred times by now.

I'm always pleasantly surprised at the amount of info/knowledge that can be found here...
