Stupid cut out question

Stupid cut out question Okay first let me say that I am not very femiliar with this whole exhaust buisness and I am going for most bang for the buck hence cutouts. I had a 00 z28 that I had a 3 inch exhaust pipe on with some echo tips and some crappy flowmasters. I didn't like the sound still so I went with a cutout and it was super loud of course. My question is I am thinking about getting some cutouts again but I have the stock 99 ws6 exhaust which I guess the pipe is 2.5 inches right? Would it matter if it were a 3 inch with a different muffler or will it sound the same? I am asking this because I know some of the exhaust goes past the cutout.
Should I just throw a cutout on there and not mess with anything else?

I just don't want it to sound stupid, I looked on that website with the ls1 sounds but I can't find a stock car with just a cutout. Everyone has a million mods on there.
