Default X,h,or Open Headers?????

My question is this I have a 382, at the track I remove the caps off the headers when I run. Would I pick up power with a H or X pipe or am I better of doing what Im doing?

maybe a foot or so of pipe off the headers... that may help with back pressure? is it a track only car?

Open Headers are going to flow the best out of all the choices. Adding anything also adds weight.

backpressure and burning your O2's out is the only problem with open headers

and that fact that you need earplugs

Not really backpressure as much as no velocity/scavenging.

i vote one of those X/H crossover pipes dumped. jmm98LS1 has one of them, maybe he can comment. should be the best of both worlds: improves power under the curve and scavenges pretty well.

X pipe will make the best possible power. at least with the x pipe it can balance uot the flow and as tis been said, help with scavening

says who? y-pipes can scavenge better than an x-pipe. also, x-pipes are for peak horsepower. for dyno graphs they're great. unfortunately, you can't race dyno graphs. h-pipes have the ability to make more power under the curve and have a higher average gain over the entire rpm range. x-pipes make power over h-pipes way up in high rpm's. unfortunately, very little of our times is spent up there in those high rpm ranges that x-pipes rule in, making in my opinion an h-pipe or an x/h crossover a more realistic application.

i've only seen one graph of a car dynoed with an h-pipe and then an x-pipe. it was a mustang. the h-pipe **** all over the x-pipe. unfortunately, no one ever backs up their claims as to which is better. the reason why people praise x-pipes on this site is because that's what everyone has. nobody has proof they are better and they only get x-pipes because that's what most people have. i guarantee you if TSP made their system with an h-pipe instead of an x-pipe, people would praise the h-pipe. your best bet is to try each of them dumped and dyno each. Lord knows they're cheap enough. i'd put my money on the h-pipe making average higher power per rpm.
