high temp engine/exhuast paint.

Make sure it's clean or it'll just flake off. Not keen on it myself.

I used this stuff, and now I won't use anything else. I found that Autozone actually carries it, bought 6 cans from them.

The flat black turned out really nice, and I didn't do **** to the tubing. I wiped off any dirt and let 'er rip. It went over the aluminized steel like it was primer'd.

I painted mine just recently.
Used 500* black engine enamel from Autozone, hopefully that will be enough.

I sanded with 240-400 grit all over, and a wire brush attachment around the welded spots.

Then washed it with a light Dawn solution, painted, let dry for a day and then re-installed it back on the car.
I read here somewhere that you can "cure" it by running a couple of warmup cycles @ 3:00 a piece spaced 30 minutes apart or so.

So I did that, looks nice now, not sure how well it will hold up tho, its only been a week or so.

I did this to my cappy 4 years and 60 thousand miles ago, no rust only some rock chips in it. Got the paint at the zone, cleaned the new pipes with a scotch brite pad and brake clean. looks great and the pipes don't rust. I did the same to my T/A also and it still looks brand new also.

I used the same stuff on my duals (only the silver variety) and the only "prep" I did was blowing the pipes off w/compressed air. Still looks like I just sprayed it.

You need to use 1200 degree paint made for exhaust systems - anything forward of the intermediate pipe is almost certainly above the 500 degrees that engine paint is rated for.

I used silver exhaust paint from AutoZone on my Y-pipe and it still looks as good as (and quite similar to) the ceramic coating on my headers after two years.

That's what I used. It's WAY tougher than the *500 ****. Claims 1300-2000*

Just go to Autozone and look for "Flameproof VHT". VHT is a very high quality stuff, same stuff that Jordan used.

I've used the VHT stuff too. Put it on from the Ypipe back....with no pealing. Looks as good as when I first sprayed it. Only prep was knocking a little rust off with wire brush.

Well this is fantastic, looks like my paintjob is screwed.
You know how many different ways I searched for painting exhaust too.
Too bad this thread wasn't up three weeks ago.

For my headers, I used clear VHT flameproof 1200* (over the ceramic coarting).

For my exhaust I just used good old bar-b-que paint, with great results.

This is why I keep preaching the VHT Flameproof. Engine paint works great on ENGINES because they rarely get over 230* (coolant temp).

I used engine paint on my rear end, but it's not tough enough for exhaust parts.
