yeah remember to block off the two open lines inside the car, we all know how dirty it can get in there no need to get all that crap inside the lines....also i would recommend getting some plastic sandwich bags and some rubber bands and wrap the parts ends with them...not good to let air and moisture getting in there...the ac is a sealed system and should stay that way...have fun gaining 4 free hp or there abouts

Yeah, I suppose if every FBody owner released their freon all at once it might make a Spotted Owl somewhere hiccup Just push the valve, it's not that much.

Just remember that your defrost will not work very well when the humidity is up. The A/C works in conjunction with the defrost to take the "steam" out of the inside of the car (ride in your car for a while on a cold day and just breathing will steam up the windows with no defrost). I remember the old days with a 64 ford van with no AC...... the defrost had to be set to "burn you out" to clear the front windshield, but every other window in the thing was so fogged up that you couldn't see out of them. Your side and rear window will be pretty much usless to see out of once you remove the AC.

Also, when putting the AC back on the car you must put in a new dryer (and I recommend a new orfice tube also), and then use a vaccuum pump to remove any air in the system BEFORE you put the new Freon in it.

My advise is unless your going to make it a 100% strip duty car, just leave the AC in place.

Also, after letting the accumulator sit for a while (several weeks) it won't work as well anymore as it absorbs moisture from the air while it's apart.

If you ever reinstall it you might want to put in a new accumulator.

Apart from that, no problems here with my A/C removed. The car runs a lot cooler too without the condenser in front of the radiator.

Dryer in my post = Accumulator in the next post. Same part, just different names. I guess the best name for it would be the Accumulator/Dryer as it does the functions of both.

Well guess its not worth taking 40lbs out if I have to buy new dryer. Not sure how much they are, but probably not worth it. Are you saying that if I seal it up good I shouldn't have to buy a new one?

You can't "seal it up good enough". The desacant in it will slowly absorb moisture from the air with tape/rubber bands/plastic etc. The best you could do is find metal cap fittings or plugs and screw them into each side of the accumulator/dryer (if even possible) and hope the thing is still good when you decide to put it back on. Personally I won't put an AC system back together without a new dryer and orfice tube on any System I work on. Any moisture in the system will contaminate the oil and ultimately take out the compressor. It's cheap insurance to replace those two items when putting one back together.

Yes I've done quite a bit of AC work (cars and houses) thru the years.
