I have been using a ls6 valley cover with a ls6 pvc and a breather in the oil fill hole in my valve cover for a year now with no problems with oil in the intake..I am running the GMPP valve covers with no provisions for emissions on them..with the coils relocated..it is a clean engine without all that crap all over the valve covers...

I had to get rid of the metco oil cap breather because at wot , the rocker arms were throwing oil up and out of the breather .
I ended up welding a baffle under the oil fill on my valve cover to keep the splash from getting up into the breather..the baffel works great but you have to pour the oil in slowly or it will over flow...

That is a nice set up. I have done basically the same thing with another quality catch can that was offered through LS1tech. I routed my valve cover vents and my LS6 valley cover vent to the catch can and vented it out through a breather as well and it does work great! It catches all the moisture and by products to remove them from the system like it should. I'll never route my pcv back through the intake again.
I do change my oil more than most would, but it's just real cheap insurance IMO.
FWIW- I drilled a 3/8 hole in my oil filler cap and installed a 90* nipple and it T's in to the LS6 valley cover vent line.
Sweet catch can and the extra capacity (drop) is a sweet feature as well.

Is it just a breather in place of the top fitting and eliminates the top hose?

So, If you do the breather set up, then your pcv system is still functioning properly and removing the contaminents from the oil and you dont have any oil going back to the intake. Is this correct? If thats right, this would seem like the best route to take.

Back to the drain plug fitting on the bottom. Here's and innovative idea for the manufacturer: put some sort of tubing fitting on the bottom that will allow a soft flexible tube to pushed over and the valve opened releasing the flow of trapped oil through the tube. You run the tube to your oil dish during oil changes to empty the can. No messes and this would be faster than removing the can.

With the breather can the preasure created is vented through the can and out to atmosphere and not back into the motor .
