When porting a TB, you can't go larger than the throttle plate, or you meter more air into the engine. Porting the casting smooths the airflow from the larger diameter of the inlet, down to the smaller throttle blade.

For those who are wanting to port TB's on their daily driver, I also recommend DIY. There are plenty of good write-ups around, and I was able to do my own in two evenings without air tools. I used cutters and stones in a 3/8 drill and a dremel, did the finish sanding by hand. I enlarged the opening and blended it down to the size of the throttle blade, knife edged the blade and sanded off the pattern on the blade (for looks). I hand sanded the inside with 220 and 600 grit paper, and then did the ground down the throttle stop. If you have access to a compressor and a die grinder, I'm sure you can get it all done in a few hours.

Thanks for all the responses

I have done it myself before on my previous '99 TA
Epoxy over the hole, polished it up, etc.
I'm just liking some of these a ton...mine came out pretty damn good, but some of these still look better

Cool, but that didn't really address my questions.

Since I'm still very new to all this, I have a question. Will a ported throttle body pass California smog? I truely have no idea, thanks

09CPTN-
I missed the question in the second part of your post. I have an SLP MAF too, but mine's in a box. It seemed allow too much advance and caused my car to spark knock. I've heard good and bad about them. If your car is lightly modded, I assume it would be just fine. The SLP MAF tweaks the signal sent back to your PCM though, and if you are making enough power (i.e. - have made enough changes to your car) you will need to tune, as it's calibration will be off.

Keep in mind that when you run boost, it is all about how much air you can flow. The freer flowing your intake is the better, so going big can only help (unlike on N/A applications where too big of an intake can hurt low-end and throttle response). Its not all about boost. 8psi with a 90/90 will make noticeably more power than 8psi on an LS6 manifold and ported TB.

Anyone know what the actual difference between an s2 and s3 is? Like what he does that is different? Other than just one is more for street and one for the strip.

Alright, so I have an option to get a Bo White, or a Shaner S3. Which one? Does it even matter? Is there much of a difference?
