overheating problem

overheating problem ok guys first time my car has ever done this i was driving like normal when all of a sudden i see check gauges i look and that **** hit 260 quickly pulled over and shut it off for a few minutes turn back on get home check the water top it off seems to work i go for a drive and it tries to overheat if i idle too long what gives? could it be the fan not coming on or the thermostat stuck the wird part is it tries to over heat then quickly drops when i get going

yah something is happening because i had filled it a couple of weeks ago but i saw no leaks yet again it was 10 at night but im gonna be checking it today after work how would i get the air out of the system since im gonna flush evertyhing and top it off

if it goes down when you move, and overheats when you idle..more than likely its you fans not coming on. they control the temp at idle and low speeds. At highway speeds and such, the air dam picks up air to hit the rad which controls the temp.

My car was leaking from a bypass cap at the bottom of the radiator on the drivers side. Its a 3/4 bypass. I dont know what it is supposed to go to and I could never find out. It was like that when I bought it. Could be the same if you cant find it leaking anywhere else, it was dry rotted to the max and would leak. Hope this helped

ok i fixed it the problem was too much air in the system. What i did was Flush the system and motor then i refilled the system by the instruction on install university worked like a charm! thanx for the help guys
