I put the slp maf in my car, but left the screen on it. You guys think taking it off would give me any noticable difference. I got a k&n airfilter. Would I be getting more in?

SLP doesn't recommend descreening the maf on street cars..... I wouldn't do it... personally I think I just wasted my money on that thing... also I was going to p&p my tb this weekend w/ the tb bypass.

My personal outlook on the MAF is that it shouldn't be messed with in general. Descreening, porting, etc. Yea newer vettes didnt come with a screen ( cant remember what year) but like ive said before, the risk isnt worth the reward. Im not against swapping out MAFs, but to me even the slightest slip-up while doing a free mod on one is going to make you wish you didnt do it, no matter how careful you are...just my .02

One more thing I just thought of. I was told that descreening the MAF makes it a bit more dificult to tune. Descreening creates an inconsistant air flow over the sensing units. -THat's what it was... trying to find a way to word it.

I just ported my TB and did the bypass mod last weekend. Oh, also added a lid I got cheap. Definetley noticeable.

If I can find a link to one of the threads showing how to port the TB that perhaps has some good pictures I may actually take my TB back off this weekend for a touch more material removal in one area next to the ports. I was just unsure of how thick the aluminum was in one particular spot, plus......I didn't quite get to the mirrored level of polishing.

As I was fortunate enough to get a free stock MAF with my lid, I will set my stock MAF aside and descreen the freebie as well as cutt out the divider and blend polish where it was. The divider is also another effort to straighten the air is my understanding from reading and simply looking at it.

I spotted a thread at one point showing wideband readings from stock MAF to a descreened then to a descreened and ported (divider removed), then I believe it also showed one or two other aftermarket meters effects. Was very interesting. Not sure if I still have the link but, I just remember thinking............I'm descreening and porting that MAF. Now that I am personally fortunate enough to have two stockers in hand it does take away the risk of a poor result somewhat.

I've heard some say the descreened & ported MAF was by far the most noticeable of the free mods so............I'm game. I'll find out this weekend hopefully for the better.

My understanding is this is more of a low rpm/air speed issue and naturally not a wide open throttle issue. Which makes sense to me.

Another issue I remember is the MAF mods can bring on some detonation issues on some cars. From my reading some have an issue with it and some have none.

I'm crossing my fingers for the slightly leaner = meaner result, as well as the obvious improved airflow at WOT.

Default take the maf apart

i took the maf apart to keep from damaging the electronics there is a notice in power these things are all over the net and ebay ported if its a moof mod why do so many people do it MAF meaning mass air flow saying that porting doesnt help is like saying your air lid mods fra k&N wontaffect anything because the maf was calibrated to only read stock components
this is true about the screen being there to straighten airflow the maf uses
voltage signals just like any other sensor the more air passin through it the higher the viltage it sends to the ecm .It is calibrated for the stock injectors
ive done lots of reearch on this before i done it and as far as cams go that is a future mod
