Default 99 LS1 knock sensor problems

I have a few questions.
My car is a 99 Z28 and is throwing a low voltage knock sensor code.
I purchased a new knock sensor but cannot locate where it goes.

Is it under the intake?
If so whats the best way to get to it.

also does it have 1 or 2 knock sensors?

You have to take the intake off. Not too hard to do @ all. Also buy the other knock sensor. Better off changing both IMHO than having to do it all over again.

Yeah, I'd change both while the intake is off. There's an intake swap article at www.ls1howto.com/index.php?article=5 Just ignore the LS6 items.

Yes, both are the same. And please DO change them both while your under there. I made the mistake of only changing 1 when it went bad...2 weeks later, I was back under there changing the other one.

Look at the wiring harness real good too, and be careful you don't break the oil pressure sensor - happens all the time.

It's definitely worth the money and the perfect time to do it.

Default Are there really 2 on a 99

Ok, I am needing to put a new knock sensor in also. Dealer says it has two, the parts store say one. The service manual says 2000 and up have 2 and the 98, 99 have one. The parts store ordered me 2 and if I only need one I can bring the other one back.

You will also need new intake gaskets.

Good luck

The oil pressure sending unit is directly behind the intake on the drivers side, it is between the brake booster hose and the intake manifold, which is why it gets broken so easily.

And you DO NOT need new intake manifold gaskets, they are reusable

My 98 has two, I imagine they all would but I'm not sure. Make sure you get the latest part # for the sensors, I'm not sure what it is off hand but I can check when I get home.

Yeah, 98's have 2 sensors also. I just did mine a few months ago. They are in a bad location, if you like to wash you engine, you will be replacing these suckers a bit more often. Mine both looked like they were onboard the Titanic. Before I put the intake on, I build up a small ring of silicone around the holes to try and keep some of the water out.

There is 2 knock sensors on all ls1s. I would replace the harness also. Its like $30 and a good peice of mind. U can buy the kits off ebay with both sensors and harness. Just make sure they are oem. not oem replacments.
when ur installing the new harness silicone around it so water wont get back in there and you be doing the same thing in a few months.

here is a pic of how to silicone it from another member.
