Question I need help deciding on headers!

Alright, I am obviously a new mbr and a GIRL. I love my hubby's LS1 Z28 M6. I am trying to get him new headers for Christmas without him knowing (he always seems to figure it out). I am really liking the QTP LT. But I am not sure. I kinda wanted to stay in the 400-700 range and get the best quality and value. I know that I will get QTP over Kooks but I am indifferent about the Hookers. Also, I know he has flowmasters with dual exhaust but will he still need a Y-pipe. Can he still keep duals with a Y or could he just mod his exhaust that he has now? What else will I need to get to go with the headers?

awww how cute

...seriously, will you marry me?

so if your set on the QTP's that's one check off the list. those are rather the more pricey headers along with kooks as they're stainless steel instead of just coated compared to the Hookers you were mentioning. he will need to get a new y-pipe as the longtubes bring the collector down to the floorboard which shortens the y-pipe. you can get a cheap ORY (no cats) if you don't have to deal with emmissions.

...new exahust manifold gaskets will be needed along with O2 sensor extensions and the rear O2's will either need to be tuned out or you can buy O2's sims

Go with S/S definitely. There's also a new choice you may want to consider. They're called American Racing Headers and I've seen them in person. The quality is out of this world.

I really appreciate all of your help guys. I don't think that I am going to go with the QTP. I am working with a "budget" of $1000. I am trying to get the most that I can and still be Quality. Now that I know that I will still need to get him a catted Y, I don't want to go overboard. He is not exactly the Flashy type of guy either. He like to shock the hell out of people. Okay, so I am seriously thinking about the Jet Hots Coated LTs with the TSP Catted Y w/ the High Flow Magnaflows (We don't live in an extremely cold area and never will; he still wants to be mostly street legal when we go home to Texas). I read that the Jet-Hots are a refined version of the Hookers. Should I spend a little more for the Hookers or not? Also, I know that headers can make a car loud. He has a cutout right now that gives a nice sound when he idles but really roars when he gets on it. Will a cutout make any difference with these headers? Should I get it or not? I want to keep his car at a low roar. How can I keep it that way with headers?

I can't believe how much I have learned about headers lately! Before the past few days, I wouldn't have been able to tell you what they look like or where they are.

as a former st. augustine resident, GO WITH STAINLESS STEEL. you dont have to deal with road salt, but the SEA SALT will kill those headers. if he does not plan to lower the car you could go with the slp longtubes and y-pipe for about $800.

Well, it sounds like you have done a lot of research yourself so you are already miles ahead of many of the guys on here. Just to clear something up, it sounds like you husband has a flowmaster muffler with dual tips, not tru duals. Due to this a Y pipe is neccessary as the LTs will come further back to the rear of the car than the stock manifolds. The TSP Y with Magnaflow cats is a great choice. They are some of the best flowing cats on the market today and will keep the car emissions legal. Personally I would stay away from SLP headers. Even if he has no desire to lower the car, the headers still hang very low and can cause clearance issues on a stock height car. I don't know much about the stainless super comp headers so I can't comment on them, but for a while many people were extremely happy with the pacesetters which can be purchased coated from TSP as well. Jet hots are great headers (I had a friend have them on his 02 WS6) and if you are looking for a good overall header without breaking the bank, this would be a good choice. As far as the cutout goes, this is just basically a bypass of the muffler. If it's loud now, it will be louder with the LT's but that is part of the fun! By going with a catted Y you will minimize rasp and with the cut out closed it will remain somewhat quiet at idle but will roar when he gets on it. Hope this helps with your shopping. If you have and ????s feel free to ask. That's what this place is all about.

DO NOT BUY SLP CRAP

coated pacesetters $375 to your door, then order TSP true dual system.

wowo you have really done your research i am very proud but if i had to give one advice it would be to do SS LTs.... and the magnaflows cats are the best ones out there to my knowledge.. i do not have first hand experience with them, but some of my friends have them and have been plenty happy!!!

Great Job

Id say go with the XS Super Competition headers off of ebay, amazing value for the money. As for the exhaust, I personally think the Texas Speed true duals w/ sweet thunders sound amazing.

Okay, So this is what I am looking into so far:

Jet Hot Coated LT's
TSP Y-pipe with Magna-Flow Cats

Hopefully, with this setup, he will have the header sound in exchange for the cutout sound. I want it to stay with the same sound that he has now. So no cutout. I am a little worried about landstuhltaylor said about the sea salt. I don't actually live near the beach nor would we ever take this car to the beach. We haven't had any problems with sea salt here so far. I emailed Jet-Hot about this issue. I would rather have the Jet-Hots than the Hookers because they seem way better to me. So are there any other comments on this?

Coated pacesetters would be my choice, as someone said above $375 shipped to your door, then get the y pipe with the cats, then you could spring for a nice cat back system and complete the exhaust in one shot
BTW any coated header will eventually rust, so if you want one that won't rust then the stainless is the one you want

dont mean to knock on 2k2 but i wouldn't go near pacesetters.... i've done research and ALMOST got em because they are really low priced.... but they're priced like that for a reason.... kooks long tubes are the **** if you wanna pay for em.... PERFECT fit... sound great, great results! pricey but once again you get what you pay for!

Well I agree with mikeith, if you have the $$$ then kooks are the ****, but if you're dealing with a limited budget, the pacesetters aren't bad, they fit, and they work, so it's up to your wallet what route you take

I personally like the pacesetter ceramnic coated headers and TSP off road y pipe. I didnt have any problems installing the headers...it was a breeze.
