theirs no backpressure or resistance in his exhaust so its flowing freely and thats what your hearing, solution, add a better muffler or some cats

ok i see, well honestly i dont care if he fixes it or not and im sure he doesnt either, i was asking more for my self. I have almost the exact same set up but with cats. I wanted to get rid of my hi-flow cats and i didnt want the poping sound. Would it be better to just port my cats? would that add some backpressure?

yea porting or gutting your cats will give you basically what your friend has an off road Y pipe so you will loose backpressure

Uh, im pretty sure it has more to do with exhaust leaks also... like mine for instance... i have leaks EVERYWHERE so i get a ton of popping. Im pretty sure if everything is welded up real nice you wouldnt hear it as much. Just a thought.

Yeah I have a TSP 3" ORY off my pacesetters and a SLP resonator off the y pipe and under load the car sounds ungodly mean but during shifts it makes a like platt/fart/ popping noise I think it has somthing to do with torque managment when it shifts but it may be the exhaust. I wont change my exhaust b/c of that b/c it sounds so mean when your in it and it flows really well

I dont have my header or catless y on yet so I cannot say 4 sure, but...

On my old Buick (which had no cats) I had a popping sound when I put a Flowmaster on. The sound was from the air-pump. The fresh air pumped into the exhaust was creating small combustions (or so I was told). Deleted the air pump-->popping was gone. Just food 4 thaught.

The air pump is only on until the cats are at operating temperature. If your popping is only there when the air pump is on then, yes it would fix your problem. I ported my throttle body and changed to colder plugs for my nitrous and my popping has dissappeared.
