Question AIR or Race Style??????

I am trying about to purchase QTP LT's for my hubby's 01 Z28. Which should I go for? The ones with AIR or the Race style? This is a surprise for Christmas so I can't just ask him. I know he wants to be able to pass inspections but he wants the most horsepower. Which is easier, that is the real question? Is it going to be more of a hassle to take it off?

I have to order this by tonight before the Sale ends!

What type of "inspections" are you referring to?

go with AIR if you need to pass inspections as if you go "race" then the AIR system would have to be deleted and tuned out
...which of course will cause "your hubby" to fail his somg test

I agree. Go with the air ones. It's easy to use block off plates if he wants too.

I like the race style headers better. I have seen 2 cars with the air tubes blocked offed that actually broke off at the header while driving. Once at the track and once on the street while just cruising.

get the Air headers, race versions dont offer more power...just a cleaner install once the air system is removed....maybe with alot of tunning race headers might show a lil more power, but not enough to really bother with it all. thats if you have to pass inspection

He has to pass a Texas inspection. Which for the most part is pretty easy. He could get away with not having it if he really needed to. But I am not sure if he would want to delete it or not. I could convince him either way but I need good reason. Would he have to unistall the entire air pump or could he just tune it out and block it off? I don't want him to have to take out the air pump.

Texas inspection. We live in FL now but in 2 years we will prob be going back and he will need to pass. I think it is only an "obvious" type inspection. LT's will fail anyways, right? So it really doesn't matter, bc he will fail anyways, right. So which is easier in the end?

All he would have to do is unplug the air pump, remove the air tubes, and have the air system tuned out. He can leave the pump there.

Why do people go through all of the trouble to delete it out if it has no benefit?

I just found out, AIR is not part of a Texas inspection.

cleans up the engine compartment... reduces some noise at startup... and is a very minor weight reduction...

and its not really any trouble to delete, especially if your doing race style headers...

the hardest part of the delete is the bolt on the back of the head you have to remove

People delete it because it cleans up the engine bay, it makes changing spark plugs much less stressful. It is also a very minor weight reduction. I regret not getting the race style. I had to make block off plates when I removed the A.I.R. I'm going to purchase the race style when I have some extra cash.

I just found out, AIR is not part of a Texas inspection.

if its not deleted when the pump is removed, the PCM will notice something is wrong and store a DTC and cut the SES light on. thats an automatic failure for an OBDII car in texas. MOST places in texas wont do a visual. if you plan on putting cats behind the headers, keep the smog pump system. if you're gonna go catless, take it off and delete it from the PCM. also remember, if he drives the car, he'll be the one stuck with the fine for not having cats if you go that route. no trooper or judge is gonna take"my wife bought it like this for me" as a defense. so you gotta know if he's willing to drive a catless car or not. know what i mean?

oh yeah, wives that buy their husbands headers for Christmas ROCK!!
