you should seafoam your crankcase before you switch from conventional to synthetic oil to get all the gunk out. at least that's what i recommend. switching should not hurt anything at all. in your case, we can only speculate what happened, but people should check their oil levels, heck ALL FLUIDS, frequently anyway. this is usually why cars owned by men last longer than cars owned by women.

BTW let me rephrase that. the GM Manual call for 5W30...

GC Problem.. User #2
you also have to remember that increased noise does not necessarily mean increased wear. even if your engine is twice as loud on GC 0W-30 than M1 5W-30, i still bet you'll come away with nearly half the wear on GC 0W-30. my engine has a tick to it, too, but nothing that worries me. i intend to get this oil change analyzed. i have something like 800 miles to go before i hit the 4,000 mile mark. i'm considering running it to 5,000, but not sure yet.

i just sent away for the kit right now from blackstone

Anthony, you could be right. But that noise was really loud. I guess i was afraid that i might hurt my baby... But the noise was a lot louder with the GC! Like i have said before, GM calls for 5W30.. why switch????

because it's junk. i'd try and get 5W-40 if you can find it. it's a better oil. remember, mobil 1 5W-30 is barely a 5W-30. the 5W-40 is more on par with our larger clearances. mobil 5W-30's a 4 banger oil...though i still wouldn't use it.

Mine was normal looking. Don't know what the deal was. It smoked like a columbian drug lord.

They run fine. though. I analyzed it when I seafoamed the SS. were all good! Plus it looked like any other oil change I had ever done. No oil fudge brownie chunks came out or stuck in the bottom of the pan.

I used mobile 1 10w30 for over 45,000 miles after foaming. Changed it every 2500 miles and engine used absolutely no oil, never had any in the intake after about 5 checks over a 40,000 miles period. Using a full 6 quarts it held over 40 lbs at idle and around 65 at WOT. I used 6 quarts because I drove it like it was at the track everyday. Peace.

Edit: Engine had 96,000 when it was wrecked.
