ati dampner

i just got an ati dampner for my built ls1 and i have a question about it i noticed that it has a spot for a key way but my crank doesnt have a slot for it does the dampner acutally need it or not and if not then how will the dampner turn with the crank can someone please let me know or help me out
i just dont want to mess up this engine i got

the ls1 is a press-fit type design. Don't need it, but if you decide to pin the crank later, you'll have a slot in the balancer to use

thanks any ideas on how to just get it on the crank its kinda a tight fit
