cat problem

cat problem the passenger side cat on my 98 z28 has developed a very loud rattle, when i pound on the cat i can hear something inside the cat move around, has anyone experienced this problem and if so what was the remedy? looking at the system it appears that i am going to have to remove the entire system to cut out the old cat, if i do not replace the cat and just weld in a piece of tube, will i have any trouble codes
Replace it with a factory one if you don't want to worry about your check engine light coming on. If you gut it, your light will most likely come on with a catalyst efficiency code. Sounds like a good time for headers and a y-pipe.
