From what I understand, vacuum pumps are not all that practical on daily drivers, they're more for an all out drag application. That's pretty much the extent of my knowledge, maybe someone else can chime in with better info.
What caught my attention is that I know the owner of the company that you posted the link to (he's my boss' father), and he told me a while ago that that kit was developed around the corvette accessories and engine bay and would probably need modification for f-bodies.
have you tried some of the cheaper possible fixes like a catch can?

well the car is only my race/fun car, not a DD. i've tried a catch can/oil seperator/breather, they all pretty much just suck.

i seen it was fit for the vette but it looked like it would fit on a f-body pretty easily.

here's a Vacuum Pump kit that works on an F-Body - a little more money, but then it's the original idea that's been copied by others and maybe they can only compete on price

These kits are available with 3 vane and 4 vane pumps, adjustable regulators, and a oil separator/catch can.

I'd give the guy a call (link in the first post). He really knows his stuff and he did tell me that he has a customer with a camaro and one of his kits, so maybe he could describe what if anything had to be modified.

I sent him an e-mail. This was his reply:

A 99 F body should be similar. The key is this. The vacuum pump fits between the belt tensioner and the water resevoir in the C5. We replace the tensioner pulley with our own and mount the pump on the pass side head. It fits perfect. So you should have an LS1 which is what it is designed to fit, and will fit as long as the tensioner is in the same location as the C5. If for some reason you have an LT1 then our standard mounting kit using a separate crank pulley and mount off the head will work, but you do need an after market bolt on keyed balancer. This assumes you have the room infront of the serpentine and balancer for another pulley, which was the problem with the C5

Hope we can help.

vaccum pumps are made for power not to catch oil. You will fill the tank very fast if you drive it around.

Yes and on big engines that suck up vaccum they can make a good bit of power. And in fact reduce oil consumption. Of course they don't "catch" oil lol

they do catch oil. When you suck it up with the pump where do you think it goes. Their are certain reasons to have one but 99% of cars on here dont need one.

So what determines when an engine needs one?

That setup is nice, but I already have a catch can (not as nice a setup as that). A vacuum pump sucks air out of the crankcase caused by blowby, which is compressed a/f getting past the rings. A catch can doesn't do that. I want a vacuum pump. Just a small one.
