Question Gutting cats

How much work is involved in gutting out the cats on a 99 Z28, Do I have to take down the whole stock exhaust, or does the cats un-bolt from the exhaust and worked on ? I'm trying to find a diagram of a exhaust system for the f-body. Thanks for any help

Its not that hard to gut a cat. All you have to have is a pry bar to reach in there and break the packing up. But if you just gut your cat your going to cause turbulance in that area of your exhaust. To properly do this you need to run a straight pipe through the cat. That was it doesn't create unwanted turbulance and from the outside everything looks stock.

I did this on My LT-1. You run whatever size pipe the inlet/outlet is on your cat. Basicly your just running your exhaust through there with out any disturbances.

I did it on my aftermarket cats. I gutted them, stuffed a straight pipe through and welded it shut.

Get your cats taken off and take them to your local auto recylcer.

Have pipes welded in their place.

You can get about $100 for those cats. thats what the pay around here.

If you live in a place that does visual inspections you're screwed if you do that though.

Dont gut your guts unless you run a straight pipe thru them. without a pipe they act as resonators so know you've added 2 resonators to your exhaust and made your flow worse + the smell.

I'm an LS1 newbie so I could be wrong but I don't see how gutting them is going to make the flow worse? Please fill me in?
