if I were to ever go with a metal intake.. I would DAMN sure that I would get it "Extrude Honed"..

for information on Extrude Hone.. see this Extrude Hone

basically.. here is the short version.. they inject (with high pressure) a paste of abbrasive chemical into the intake (or heads or anything else metal) the abbrasives baiscally polish and debur the inside of the intake, leaving an almost mirror finish.

Several friends of mine on the thirdgen.org board have done this to their intakes and runners and have seen quite a nice difference in airflow and power.

this is a great process since it gets to places a normal person can not get to (the inside of some intake manifolds)

^ I wouldnt say it was mandatory but definitely put it on the "to do list" as its a very good way to squeeze out a few extra horses!

The Weiand comes with paper gaskets. There are a few mods you need to do to make sure you dont get any leaks. I'm going to portmatch mine to my new heads. If any of you decide to get one, you need to know a few things that arn't in the instructions. When you remove your old intake you need to take a dremel and grind all the round sides of the short head bolts under the intake flat with the head intake surface. They stick out just a little and the intake will not sit flat and you will get a vaccum leak. Aslo grind a little off the tops of the valley cover bolts and if you have the LS6 PVC sticking up you need to clearence it a little as well. First time I installed it I had a bad vaccum leak. You also need to add a little sealant around the MAP sensor seal on a boosted car. The whole they have is a little big...No big deal. Nothing new for a modded car...

The heat soak issue is a non issue..It get hot as hell here in south Texas as you know. Sure when its parked, yes it gets as hot as the motor. But as soon as you drive it for a couple of mins its cooled off. This summer I drove for 45mins, 98* outside as soon as I got home and parked the car I lifted the hood and put my hand on the intake and it was just barely warm to the touch. Not hot at all...Plus it will be cold to the touch once I install the Methanol injection

You can order them. Holley Part number 108-117 $34.39 from summit racing. I'm going to tap the MAP hole, install a brass fitting and relocate my MAP sensor...

I was thinking it would make it easier to swap MAPs to a 2 BAR MAP later if I want to switch to a 2 BAR speed density tune down the road...

i think i am gonna go the metal intake route when i buy my t/a this summer...i plan on sprayin the **** out of it, so i like the idea of the added strength, and they just plain look bad ***...plus it will be my DD in chicago and east lansing, so heat won't be much of an issue...

10psi with those numbers but through an LS6 intake. No dyno after, but I tracked it and saw the same MPH as before 130mph..My car is down right now. I'm building a new forged motor and turning up the boost to 13-14psi. I will post the dyno when its finished...

nothing at atll. you will still get your added performance. it out flowed the ls6 but just barely, and you have the option to port match to heads/tb maf ends whatever you can think of.

These metal intakes are good for the average cruiser that doesn't want to kick a grand for the FAST intake correct? What is the "heatsink" problem and would it affect long distance driving? How much does the PP intake cost?

I've personally seen shitty results and sealing problems with the Weiand and pretty good results with the BBK manifold and their 80mm TB. I don't know if the results with the BBK would have been as good if the stock 75mm TB had been used with it. Kind of strange they made the manifold opening 85mm and only make a 80mm TB to go with it.

So you guys are all running aftermarket tb's on your new intakes? Anyone here still have the stock tb p&p with one of these intakes? If so what do your numbers look like?
