Default Cutout Question

Can I weld in a Stainless steel cutout into a non stainless steel exhaust (factory)??? Or should i just band clamp it? Got one for my buddy who also has a ta, and I didnt even think about the stainess not being able to be welded to the aluminum or whatever the stock exhaust is made out of.

The window sticker for my car says it came with stainless steel exhaust, and it was just the standard Z28 exhaust.
