Default FYI on changing to LS6 intake on a 98

If its your first time changing an Intake manifold on a 98 ls1 to an ls6 intake you are most likely going to break the oil pressure sending unit. I know its been said before. However, I work for Advance Auto Parts and we do not carry this thing!

The part numbers are: 12559781 or D1812A

I recommend calling the local chevy service center and seeing if they have one in stock before you change it, if you plan on needing your car that day! Also the tool to change it is nice to have too. FYI

Or you could just lift the intake up, then out, keeping the sending unit untouched. I have a 98 and didn't have any problems.

I broke mine when I changed to an LS6 Intake. I ordered a GM replacement but ended up going to O'Reilly's and got a replacement to get my car back together quicker. Needless to say, go with GM's oil pressure sending unit because the O'Reilly's "special" is jumpy and not smooth at all when reading oil pressure. I have the GM sending unit sitting at the house but don't have the motivation to change it out. All I can say is take your time, you might actually be better off removing the oil sender before pulling the intake, but that will be a PITA in its own. BTW, they do make a specialized Oil Sending unit socket that you can get at the major parts stores.

My main intention was just to throw out another thread for someone to see when they did a search for "ls6 intake". Hopefully they'd be aware of that little thing and the problem could be avoided, but if there was any doubt they could locate one before they do the swap. I had to order one from some side show auto parts store. It eneded up being a borg warner part. I imagine the 99 and newer dont have this issue because everyone has talked about getting it from advance and autozone. For the 98 both had NOTHING! gave both part numbers.

Warned you are.

Get the one from chevy...the borg warner unit reads about 15 psi higher than the stock one.
