Default How do you test Coil's? LS1 miss

I have searched a bit - I guess I just did not look under the right heading. Can anyone tell me how or send me to a link that explains how to test a coil? I have a miss in my 99 ls1 & I am almost positive its a bad coil. I dont want to just start guessing and swapping so if you can Help PLZ post some info. Thanks - Arkangel77

Well, you could do a firing voltage test on the wires......under the assumption that a malfunctioning coil would not be putting enough voltage through to the plug.

do you know what cylinder is missing? if so, what i do is swap one componant to another cylinder, one to a different one, etc.
example-missfire is on #4. put the coil to #2, wire to #6, and plug to #8. see where the miss goes. if it goes to #2, its the coil. if it goes to #6, its the wire. if it goes to #8, its the plug.

I had the same problem.I took a chance and purchased a cheap code reader ($75 walmart). It narrowed down the cyl, then you check the coil ,wire and plug. The coil can be checked by resistance.Do a search on the specs it will come up.
