start with the supporting mods first, I say gears, lid, pulley, and maybe not a tune right away, do u have a catback or longtubes? If not, use the extra cash on those, and you'll save a bunch if you install it yourself...

good thing for the cut out...that flowmaster doesnt flow too well, but if you like the sound you can keep it and put some lts on and y. then you lid and a tune is awesome. gears made a big diff too!!!! you a4 or m6?

definitely go with the supporting mods first. the cam wont be able to breathe very well w/out them.

lid
headers
intake manifold (LS6)
and some gears if you have enough money (if auto)

don't worry about the tune for now. when you have some cash again, drop it on the cam and a tune.
just my suggestion.

are you a M6 or A4? if you are an A4, get a stall, lid. that would be your best bet. if you want best 1/4 performance, get a nitrous kit. a read on here a guy with a stock motor and a 150 shot ran something like 11.9 in the 1/4. you have a lot of options. do alittle more research on here before you start spending $$$. IMO, get the nitrous and some tires.

with out doing headers, your going to be VERY limited on cam selection. Cams need to breathe, and with the stock exhaust manifolds, its not going to. Even if you go with a small cam, its still not going to live up to its full potential.

As far as what you should do next with $1200 id say: gears, lid, pulley, and maybe even a different shifter.

Lid,Intake manifold, you could do the LSX combo with the TB but that will put you at your limit or close to it. Like blk97ws6 said your cam selection is going to be slim. I would just stick with these mods.

Boise ID (Ada County) has sniffer and/or visual emissions testing?

Good to know. I may not want to move there after all.....

Back to the subject.

Get a good quote (reputable rear-end shop) on the gear install. 4.10's really wake up the m6. You can also run some CARB legal shorty headers (they do better than the oem manifolds) with some CARB hi-flow cats. These mount in the stock positions. Then a nice y-pipe. But now I've spent more than $1200 I'm afraid.

FOr whats done to that car right now, a cam and set of gears should be one of the last things your thinking about.

I would get duals, to go along with shorties to purchase. Plus an ls6 intake manifold and ported TB, you already have a lid. With that combo I put down 344 rwhp, although my ls6 intake was also ported. Even without headers you want to maximize you intake/exhaust.

4.10s are fun, but IMO they get old fast. Too much shifting. But they do really wake up a M6. 3.73 is a better all-round combination.

even with a Trex and stock manifolds you would make more hp than a full bolt on car.. saying "do supporting mods first" isnt a good argument. there is absolutly no reason why you couldnt run even the biggest cam with stock manifolds.

if you want my suggestion. leave it alone. save your money, and then do EVERYTHING (headers, cam, pushrods, springs, timing chain, oil pump, stall) all at once. its what i did and id do it the same exact way again

$1200 would buy a good cam... But I wouldn't sink gears into the stock 10b. Get a Strange 12b.
