Default Paint Headers?

I have non coated headers and I dont want the paint to melt or anything. Is there a high temp paint I can paint them with to make them stay one color? thanks

Your best bet would of been to get coated ones, but if you dont feel like sending them off to get coated then I know that their is Hi temp header paint that you could use, I know we used to sell it at advanced auto, but make sure you give it proper time to dry and follow the directions or else it will burn off right away.

I used the 1200 degree stuff once I prepped them well and gave each header 5-6 coats on some mid lenght headers in my 89 camaro. I think I scraped half of it off trying to put them in I would recommend coating. But if that P 20 stuff is good or better than the paint that will be way better than nothing at all.

I sanded mine with 220 grit sandpaper put 3 coats of VHT "Flameproof" black paint on them then wrapped them with DEI heatwrap and put 2 coats of DEI black silicone sealer on them, 9 months and 20,000 miles later they still look good.

Wal mart High temp paint, has worked on mine for over 5 years and they still look nearly new. As long as you prep the surfaces right and coat them well, it will last fine.

Well time and money are issues. When people say prep them, do I just sand them with a certain grit then put several coats of high temp paint on.

have they ever been used?

If so, i'd start fresh and get them bead blasted. Scuff them a little with steel wool, clean them really well and start painting. Put MANY thin coats on right before you are gonna install them or put them in the oven to bake the finish on.

I painted mine with about 6-10 good coats then installed them the next day. Let the car idle to get them hot, let it cool and repeat like 4 or 5 times. The finish still looks like new after about 5 years except where it got scraped by a speedbump/etc.
