I was just talking to some guys in my car club and they said they thought Borla XR-1s were loud. Are they wrong, or did somebody misunderstand me when I typed one of the questions?

XR-1's are loud when you drop the hammer sure, but past that? Just deep and docile.

Any straight through muffler is going to be loud. Where the XR-1 excels is that its pretty quiet at idle/cruising. When you give it a lot of gas, they do get loud, but its only while you are accelerating.

Yea, they are louder than stock at idle etc, but nothing unbearable like dynomax bullets. The dynomax bullets are just as bad as having open headers at idle/cruise, especially if they are dumped before the axle. I had that exact setup for one summer, and it was almost impossible to even talk while just sitting in the car.

Another option, is a dual-in dual-out muffler. They have a very deep sound to them. See my web page for video clips.

Ok, so it actually sounds like it's almost exactly what I'm looking for. When I very first looked for my exhaust I wanted something that was fairly quiet just driving around, but could get really loud and intimidating if I wanted it to ... I ended up with the hooker, but it sounds like this will be an even better match...with no rasp . Perfect.

Ok, would the oval mufflers be any different tone than the round ones, or just quieter? And is either one better for performance?

Thanks for all your help.
