Default *Check Engine Oil* light is on???

Tonight my check engine oil light came on. I just had my oil changed less than 500 miles ago. I haven't looked into it at all but anybody have any idea why this would come on? Low of oil? or wat? thanks for the help.

Depends on if it said check or change. If you need to reset it: Turn the key to the on position, but don't start it. Push the accelerator to the floor 3 times...then start the car. It should reset.

the oil looked a hair low but It was still way up in the operating level. I reset the light as orangepeel said and it went off. I guess that will fix it untill it comes back on. Thanks.

The oil light comes on whether it has oil or not. It comes on every 5000 miles no matter what I believe. Just follow orange peel on how to reset it.

Are you sure that's how you reset it? That's how some other chevy cars are but with mine you have to hold the trip/odometer button for 8 seconds with the key in accessory???

Either method will work, key should be in the RUN position.

you can do either, but with the gas pedal method you don't reset your trip meter if you use it for monitoring fuel consumption.

I have done it both ways. I promise, it works both ways.

i just use a tech2. cant never get the dang gas pedal reset to work.. for anybody that cares, the algorithm the pcm uses is pretty complex, but it cant adjust for dust/contamination or sense new oil, so the system should be reset at every oil change, whether or not the light comes on.

Hold in the Trip button on your dash for 20 seconds (maybe less) while your ignition is on but car not running. I always use this method to reset the oil light after changing the oil, there are other methods but I find this simple and not tried others.

I think the manual says 12 seconds. You can download it at www.mygmlink.com if you don't have one.

Mine comes on whenever I start the car, it will stay on for about a minute or so, then turn back off, rest it then?

You dont have to turn the car on, just turn the key for your dash light to come on, hold in the trip/oil reset button for 12 seconds and the liht should go out, then start the car and you wont see that light for about 3000+ miles depends on how you drive.

thats just part of the bulb test sequence, unless its staying on for longer than a minute. i think that if you put the veicle on the regular odometer and not the trip odometer, if you press the reset trip button for the change oil light, it wont reset the trip odometer
