obviously because most people like to drive their car on the street, where anything could get sucked in there

How many pro stock cars do you see driving on the street?

While making a 1/4 mile pass, there's really not a whole lot of time for dirt to make it's way in there.

Even that said, I still wouldn't do it if I was them, I don't see how they don't swallow huge bugs and ****. Oh well...

Well, for one, they don't have lights that attract them.
Pro-stock cars are usually running a carburated setup anyway, and some of them have a blower sitting on top.
I have however seen people run with just a lid and no filter on the street. Is it a good idea? No, probably not. I would consider it for the drag strip, but not for the elements of the road.

You have to think though...this is your personal car...not an all out race car that gets its motor rebuilt at least once a season. All out drag car motors are freshened up or rebuilt at least once a year. Do you really want to take your motor apart every year and clean it out, and freshen it up. They change the oil after every weekend at least b/c that **** gets dirty in a car that only sees WOT all the time. I did it on the dyno to see what happens. It gained me quite a bit of power... but as far as on the street or even at the track, I wouldn't do it b/c I know the second I did, something would get sucked in and my **** would blow up!!
