Default Disassembling LS1 throttle body?

How hard is it to take one apart? I want to tear mine down to powdercoat it since it looks absolutely horrible now. I'm just a little intimidated by that spring, worried I won't be able to get it back together after I yank it apart!

its not too bad, just unbolt the TPS and IAC (i think it uses a T15 bit), and then take the 2 bolts out of the throttle blade and slip it out of the back. take a look at how the coil is wound (its not hard to put back), then tap the end of the shaft with a hammer to release the washer from holding the shaft. just reverse your steps to put it back together (i didn't reuse the washer), and i usually just put a dab of loctite on the throttle blade bolts.

are you going to be at the Auto Fair? if so, i'll stop by and say hi.
btw: i was really impressed with how your car looked when i saw you there in the fall.

That sounds pretty easy. I may try it if I have the time. Thanks!

And yep, we'll be on Pit Road this time. And thanks for the compliments, the underhood will be much better this time around, although my wheels have some clearcoat peeling.

Don't worry, I will be posting pics. It'll go nice with my powdercoated LS1 intake.

It's easy as pie. You'll need a few small torx bits, but nothing extravagant. The spring is easy too. Just look at how it came off, you need to "wind it" before you push the blade shaft all the way in and perch it on the stop.

I used a wire wheel/die grinder on the outside 2 throttle bodies and they came out looking sweet.

Well, I got brave and tore it down and coated it. I did a super chrome powder with a pearl clearcoat. Came out pretty good, but the clear had some marbling due to crappy powder I got off of eBay. Oh well, shoulda just sprayed some good clear I had here.

The intake is powdercoated Ultra Black Chrome
